Swiss surplus sold in all the finest flea markets and surplus shops for well over a decade. Prices have ranged from $10 in the U.S. in 1998 and I think they now go for around 30 Euros at flea markets in Spain as of June.

That is a Swiss Model 1957 bayonet.

    Made by Frederick Wenger.

    Fits the SIG Sturmgewehr 57

    Re: Bayonet help please?

I was looking for something else when I came across this thread so I thought I'd update some of the info from above which is nearly, but not quite right.

The bayonet is for the Swiss StG 57 Assault Rifle as stated above.

The blades are supplied by both Victorinox and Wenger, this one was supplied by Victorinox as there is a 'V' above the serial number, blades made by Wenger had a 'W' above the serial number. The W F marking means the bayonet was assembled by Waffenfabrik Bern.
The earlier examples had the blades marked with the blade makers name (Victoria Schwyz or Wenger) whereas the later production just used the 'V' or 'W'.

I think I'm right in saying they are some high-chrome stainless- I've seen these at militaria shows for at least 15 years and never seen a rusty one, so that should tell you something.
As to working/hardenability- by a couple and experiment is the only thing!

They'll be wanting that back, as the Libyan army is preparing to declare war on Switzerland.

    Hmmm...

Comic opera "army" invades country where every man over 20 is trained on, and entitlled to keep at home, his selective-fire SIG 550.

    Can anyone say "Target-rich environment"?

I heard the blades are soft but cant confirm that. Ive always rather liked the look of them and intended picking one up sometime but never did, quite fancy one of the Victorinox made blades. Ive never had any particular interest in bayonets but I recently acquired a British pattern 1888 mark II type 2 Lee Metford Bayonet which was confusingly made for the Lee Enfield Rifle and its a rather lovely thing, even has a bending proof test stamp X

Present from my son. Not the sort of thing I would normally buy, but it is well made and I do enjoy waving it around when there is no one else in the house with me.
