Tatara / tamahagane

Hi!


I spend lots of time to my last project in school...but now its done and part of me feels bit sad.

My coal was to run 200kg ore....but tatara was thinking different and I run bit over 80kg ...and furnace greated 40kg bloom.

Its good steel and Im happy even my plan didnt work as planned.
Me thinks that I learned a lots from this tatara
I think I can call this tamahagane...nice spark, colour,dense..

Maby I have chance to run big one ones agane...at some point.

and wow 40KG from 80KG ore is stunning...

I made tatara by my self, it was about week of time to get it total hight..and next was pipes, blowers....other tools.
My coal was run 200kg and i figured out that i need help...so I asked school friend of mine to help whit burn....didnt need to ask twice

Ore on this one was Fe3O4 magnetite whit Ti / V alloys in it ( small amouts)
it bit over 70% Fe and cemistry is guite close to satetsu...ex. that hi Fe %

I would not hesitate to do it all over agane..even its lots of work and money is spend....Its great.

Now I need to make presentation of this and maby after that i can forge bloom to waffels and start to weld.....my dream if to make katata / tachi sanmai or kobuse method....my time will tell.

Hi Niko, that's looking real nice, just forged some myself recently, lovely stuff to work. Any idea which swordsmith/tradition you'll be emulating when you forge a blade from it? Bit of a Bizen or Soshu man meself
