Re: Cutting Competition and BladeSports Certification Day

I was hoping to come down to this with the Diamond geezer but of course it's Halloween and I have my Little Witches for the day. Halloween is a special day for Little Witches of course.

    Have fun everyone!

I wonder if making the blade out of green plasticine will prove to be a mistake...

Cake ! We like cake !

    On this thought....

There is a cafe on site, but it may not be open all day on Saturday. I will sort out kettle etc so there's no shortage of a brew-up and a biccy or two, but you might want to bring along some sarnies or something to graze on. There is however, a McD's and a big Tescos only 5 minutes away by car, so an "emergency ration run" might be made at some time during the proceedings.

A plasticene bladed knife *hmm* If only I could have convinced the guys in Atlanta that they were a good idea.....

Re: Cutting Competition and BladeSports Certification Day

OK guys, it's official... BladeSpoprts UK has moved into the premises

Having already had to spend 6 hours sweeping the place out of the accumulation of about 5 years worth of that results in the place in being used to clean, service and maintain road sweepers, it was clean enough to work in and move stuff into tonight.

I've just spent a few hours building 2 of the cutting benches in the place and shipping in bin-bags full of empty 2 litre bottles ready for filling with water and some 2x4's. The other cutting bench (the one with the 'gallows' for the rope) is still at my place, so I have to dismantle it, roof-rack it over, and re-assemble it.
More 2x4's, golf balls, cardboard tubes, drinking straws, empty drink cans, cutting block and rope etc etc will arrive between now and the 31st.
I've checked that the mains sockets work (GOT to have a kettle ! ).

Please be sure to wear non-slip footwear, and please bring safety glasses with you if you have them.

If someone has a video camera they could bring, that would be great. It would bo good to post a clip or two up on YouTube for the guys in the US to see, as well as other interested parties that are unable to make it to this meet.
I'm going to be busy this weekend having fun with the Cloggies ( DKE here I come! ) but travelling to and from work next week I'll ferry most of the other stuff in without having to make extra journeys.

    Game on !

Already had it in mind. I have a number of DVD camcorders at work so was going to put a couple in. Does the area have power at all? It would be cool if we could just set the cameras up and leave them running with an occasional disc change but I'll only have a couple of batteries per camera.

Plug sockets all round the place Stew. It's a (currently unoccupied) commercial vehicle workshop.
SWMBO has said she'll be there to take photos and video, but if you bring another video camera Stew, we can set one up as a a static and have the other as a 'rover' to follow the frantic action It should make for some good footage if we can ever work out how to edit and post it

    Update on Food

The Lady Longstrider has just taken pity on us poor starving waifs and strays She will be providing hot food . It'll be something like a spag-bog mix and jacket spuds for all to tuck in to Hot-Potted over from home on the day it'll help keep us all well fuelled for some serious cutting
If anyone doesn't like the idea, that's fine... I'll eat theirs !

Good. I was thinking of two static cameras so that we could have two views of one cut. I thought it could make it a bit more interesting.
