UKPK Price Drop..
I was looking through the Spyderco's on Heinnie's when i noticed that the price of the UKPK in both orange and Foliage Green has dropped from £105.95 down to £103.95.
I know this is only a £2 drop but could this be the beginning on the UKPK finaly coming down to a sensible price?
Or have Heinnie's heard about Sal's new budget UKPK and are trying to shift their stock?

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
I would think they work on a set profit margin and the exchange rate will have been slightly better when they bought this batch.

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
I recall a post recently where there will be a FRN version for $50 so it makes it affordable for me.
http://www.britishblades.com/forums/....php?p=1290191
So at todays exchange rate that'll be £30.33p winging its way from my Paypal account.

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
Wishful thinking there Putty, I'm thinking the price would be closer to that of a Tenacious at £40, or even £45.
But even at that price i'll still be getting a few for friends and family.

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
I will admit I am confused by the pricing of our collectables
$100 for a UKPK in the USA £100 in the UK for the same thing
Not just the UKPK but often see the same modles on a £ per $ ratio.
Do Exchange rates not apply on knives?

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
Yeah they do apply, but you also have to factor in the shipping, import tax, and all the other charges on top.
I really wish it wasn't $ = £ but it is
and i dont see it changing any time soon, even though the pound is getting a little stronger now.

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
I think you are perhaps being a little naive.
Take the US price sold from a US online only seller.
Add postage from the USA. Call that a minimum of US$11.00 nowadays I think. Then add 15% VAT and about 8% Duty. Apply that to the price of the knife AND the postage.
Add a standard £8.00 handling charge for charging you for applying the charges. Mad? Yes, but true.
Take this to Heinnies then.
Postage and packing is included from Heinnies so that's pretty much a minimum of £1.50 for a cheap knife, to £6.00 plus for an expensive one. All included in Heinnies price.
Add on the cost of their warehouse and office/showroom. Add the wages for Bruce, Linda, Nick, Andrew and, I think, James.
And there is no chance of your expensive locking folder being seized by Dark Lord Vickery at Mount Doom.
Think on all of that, and then tell me that Heinnies are expensive.

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
Depending on how much stuff I order, those extra charges to get things into the UK usually run at between 34 and 39%.

Re: UKPK Price Drop..
Thanx Danzo,
Many do not realize that there is much involved in "transporting" product, especially knives, from one country to another.
Taxes, transportation fees, customs, labor, packaging, not to mention profit. Then there is "after sale" service.
While I realize that most are simply looking for the "lowest" price, little thought goes into all of the people and companies involved in getting that "special" knife to you.
Of course, the "least expensive" way is always to "cheat" your country of their taxes, but most do not think of it as "cheating". While it is often true that the people in governments are less than perfect in the "running of a country", it is better than "no government running the country", like Somalia.
So try to be tolerant of all that goes into getting you a knife and try to be pleased to give all their worth. Please don't shoot me
Regarding the price of a UK, we have finished a new mold for an FRN UKPK. It is a USA made mold, GIN-1 blade steel that is slightly thinner (.100), and a retail MSRP of about $50-$60.
The goal is to make up in volume what we lose in the lower margin, but still make a quality product in the USA that most can afford. I've been EDC'ing a prototype for the past few months and have come to appreciate the model quite a bit. It's solid, light, reliable, highly functional, affordable enough that everyone should be able to have one if they want one. It's also going to be available in a few colors, with other colors added in the future. Leaf blade, drop point and Lambsfoot available.
