If you are okay with a used vehicle and you can find a nice one in the UK, a properly fitted first gen VW Touareg is supposed to be a rather competent off road vehicle. The best ones for mud slinging are probably the newer second gen models with the optional air suspension, but those can probably get a bit pricey. Ditto for the stump puller V10 TDI!!!

Well I've got a LWB Shogun Pinnin at the moment, although I'll be getting rid of it after xmas as I'm not using it.
Nice car, but I don't need it.
Previous to that it was a Nitrous Oxide enhanced Toyota MR2 turbo
Next, I'm thinking Chevy Blazer or something that gives single figure fuel economy.
Petrol is about 8p/l out here so I'm going big 'n thirsty while I can
If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

If you want to go big and thirsty, why not take a trip up to Dubai and see if you can score a repo'ed Mercedes G500?

    Re: what do you drive

    To make room for this
The Subaru diesel engine must be quite something.
We're lucky in our company that those with company cars can choose nearly all cars (they need to have a backseat) within the budget - so, the leasing company gives a list of all the models in your budget, and what your option budget is, or how much you'd need to pay yourself. This list is not simply derived from the price of the car but the outcome of a complex formula that takes resale value, consumption, tire price etc etc into account.
Within 2 years I need to change, and if the new Legacy Diesel is within budget then I'll definitely test-drive it. It's clearly a car by and for engineers.

BTW, currently I drive a Mercedes C220D. A perfectly nice way to forget the busy traffic of my daily commute.

There was a story on the news over here a while back that was talking about Dubai's fairly stringent credit default laws. Maybe not so bad as debtor's prison of old, but when the bottom dropped out last year, apparently a fair number of expat workers just parked their financed cars in the long term car park at the airport and got on a plane for home and never looked back.
A big G-wagen or a Porsche Cayenne would be pretty cool for tear-assing around the desert. LOL

Its a stunning engine, quiet and powerfull (develops more torque / bhp than VAG engines). Downside from my point of view is its limited to 200bhp because of the dual mass flywheel.
Can't think of something worth going here just yet.

Hey, not bad after tonight's TopGear...

...and a proper British colour as well! It's a 1969 or 1970 - probably the latter - series 1. Front subframe is already series 2, however. Engine still series 1 - truly transitional then. Drives like a dream, but at a cost, mind you - it was a shiny shed when I got it. The shiny bit fooled me into it.
