Fancy Scalpel
Just finished this one for a local medical student, probably won't see many of these at the local hospital. It is, of course, fully functional and frighteningly sharp.

The steel is a mix of 1095, 15n20 & W1 about 1/16" thick, 4 1/2" overall with a 1 1/8" cutting edge. The scales are MOP with stainless steel pins.

If I where to have surgery, I'd be honoured to have that left inside me

Re: Fancy Scalpel
Sorry to say I think thats horrid.
Mostly to do with the fact I dont like MoP, but also the blade shape looks to have too much belly for its size. However those are mearly my own thoughts based on cosmetics, I have no doubt it cuts like crazy!
What I do like is the great contrast you have on the blade, is that the etch, the steel, or a combi of the two factors? Either way it looks awesome and reminds me of funky snow camo in many ways.

Re: Fancy Scalpel
Thanks guys. The damascus and the etch did come out nice. I think a "no scale" version would make a nice necker or EDC. I thought this would be a one time deal but, all the nice replies my lead me to making a few more of these medical based terrors. LOL!

Re: Fancy Scalpel
That's lovely. Note though that some bodily fluids, especially vomit, are friendly to neither MoP, nor carbon steel.

Re: Fancy Scalpel
That is out of this world pal,
I love it, for me my image of a Scalpel blade shape is
so it took a short time to get used to the idea of a different shaped blade.
I bet the person receiving this will be exstatic to say the least.
fantastic craftsmanship.
Regards,
Brian

Think of the fun you could have dissecting a T Bone steak with that.
