Ben Orford Woodlander
For those wondering about Ben Orford's knives, just got this one today:
]

Ben Orford 01 woodlander with yew handle and matching firesteel. A beautifully crafted knife and honed to a razor edge straight out of the box. Has a sharper point than most other bushcraft knives I've seen.
Thoroughly recommended!

Be interested to hear how you get on with it, nice looking knife but that point does look a tad fragile in the photo.
Cheers

Very very pretty! Yew handle is lovely
I've learned from my mistakes, I'm now really good at them.

I'm a little bit concerned about his description of his knives as given here. "...the knives you see are now very functional, but also atheistically pleasing."
Could he mean aesthetically pleasing, or is he making a statement?

Great knife looks very very well made. The yew is very pretty too, even if it doesnt have any curls.

Yes, very well made indeed. I know yew is at the softer end of the hardwood scale so it will require a bit more care to keep it looking good!

Re: Ben Orford Woodlander
I've had my eye on this knife for a few weeks, so not long, but it looks like the knife i'm after, trouble is that the picture of it on the woodsmoke site is a bit small and not that great for analysing detail, so thanks for that familne. would it be possible for you to post some side on pictures of the handle and blade?
I also have my concerns about the slender point, would it come under a custom knife to ask for that to be beefed up a bit? Did you get it through woodsmoke? I'm not that fussy about waiting lists, as long as it comes within 18 months ish, to be honest if you're making a life investment in a tool then waiting a few months is not so much to ask, in the meanwhile i can always use moras or something. How long did your knife take to arrive?
just knit-picking here, isn't yew a hard (i.e. slow-growing) softwood, as opposed to a soft hardwood? or am i completely confused? either way it's a great wood and a lovely handle.
cheers,
ian

Re: Ben Orford Woodlander
Have had the opportunity to handle one of those last year and found it to be a very solid feeling working knife with a very sharp edge and certainly up to all the usual bushcrafty type tasks, excellent buy!
And IIRC the price wasnt too bad either
