Any comments of Steeltec Grinder?
Hello folks,
Is here anyone who has tried Steeltec (XWS025) grinder?
Looks quite reasonable and pricing is not bad, around 650€
belt 75 x 2000mm, motor 3kw(4hp) /400v, 2860 rpm
Any comments?
thaks,
Jussi

Re: Any comments of Steeltec Grinder?
Hi,
What will you use it for?
If you will use it for grinding your own blades it wont work. The contact wheel is to small and the speed is to fast.
I would recommend one of these: https://www.nordellknives.com/portal...ents/com_oscom.
You can probably order one through Brisa. You can use it without variable speed but I would recommend variable speed.
I've got one and am really happy with it.

Re: Any comments of Steeltec Grinder?
Hello,
Here is specs of Nordells machine.
230/400V 3phase (. 220V single phase) 0,75 kw (1HP)
Speed: 2850 r/m
Wheel size: 300x50 mm
Band speed 29 m/sek
Size: 370x350x 560 mm
Weight: 40 kg
Speed difference is only 29 vs. 34 m/ sek. so 5 m/ sec, can't be too much...
about the wheelsize,
are you positive, it's too small to work, 8" wheel?

Re: Any comments of Steeltec Grinder?
I wouldnt recommend using the one by Nordell without variable speed, but I know makers that do. You will probably burn and ruin blades (and time) at the beginning for the coast of an inverter if you try using it without variable speed.
You can use an 8'' wheel if you're grinding freehand. But if you're using a jig, like most makers, 8'' will be to small. I've got a 12'' wheel and it's a bit to small for grinding 3mm thick blades.
Michael Holmström from sweden are using a similar grinder as the steeltec, and he is grinding freehand. Nordell also have cermaic belts from 36-3000grit.

Re: Any comments of Steeltec Grinder?
You could try to contact some Finnish makers and ask what they are using for grinders.
I think most of them are using home made grinders but I'm not sure. Maybe you can modify the steeltec and use the flat platen on the top of the grinder?
