Scandi counselling now in session......

Hi guys and gals,

Well with an ever increasing work load and less and less stonemason's around, time to spend on new scandi projects seems to be scarce

Was only the other day I thought its time to re-kindle the passion, so excitedly I took out my 'shoe box' of delights to see what blades I had to work with........I THINK I NEED HELP was the first thought that popped in my head

To my amazement the box was brimming full of blades, didnt know but I must be related to a squirrel!! Over the last year I seem to have stockpiled enough blades to last a life time.

Does anyone else have this urge to buy more blades than humanly possible to handle??? Cant help myself, I see one for sale, have a moment of inspiration for what handle materials to use, how it will look finished...... and the next thing I know Im putting my credit card back in my wallet!

I cant be the only one surely....................
Will get a few pics up tomorrow night to show the extent of my hording.

So I would like to stand up infront of the group and say.... MY NAMES IAN AND I HAVE SCANDI ADDICTION

As promised a few pics to show the extent of my problem..I have more but you start to get the idea

and a handful of wood taken from the grate of the stuff I have stashed away!

I think I've got a solution on your problem... just leave your creditcard or cash at home... that's what I do... and it works pretty well

I'm now down to just the one unhandled blade, and my hands are starting to shake.... I had 4 not so long ago.

Insulate it? Working will keep you warm - trust me, my workshop in the Arctic isn't either heated or insulated.

Re: Scandi counselling now in session......

My Names Corin And I Have Scandi Addiction

I don't want to know how much handle material I have, nor how many blades and material to make blades.
more so than that I don't want my wife to know.... (actually she knows but for some reason I am not going to argue with, she ignores it)

What I don't have is time, I have had a sheath planned for my last knife, and plenty of material to make it, but with the 4 kids its pretty hard sneak off for a bit of dad time.

I feel better now that I am part of a program, we need 12 steps

my contribution;
Step 1: I am powerless to the urge to make scandis (hopefully really good ones, and don't forget the sheath!!!!!!!)

Re: Scandi counselling now in session......

I have 11 ongoing projects at the moment, and every time I say to myself: build the blades you have at home now, and then consider bying more, but I have never been out of stock regarding blades. Maybe it´s time to stop and think? *naahh*

Re: Scandi counselling now in session......

Well, i've got about 20 blades laying around and quite a lot of handle materials, but don't have the time to work on them. But.......whenever i see another interesting blade or handle wood...i tell myself, buy it now, you don't know if you can get it later. So my stock is crowing and crowing and....

Hope i got enough time left to use up all that stuff

Re: Scandi counselling now in session......

I recieved 3 more blades to handle the other day and was quite relieved

Mind, im starting to forge the fellas now so im even more addicted

Plus I think ive got the hang of sheaths now so all the different processes stop me from getting board with it, and make me want to continue.

Its just sneeking off top the workshop thats the problem

Re: Scandi counselling now in session......

My name is Rich and I'm a Scandi addict :-) Not making many anymore as
arthritis in these old hands makes working painful very quickly. Still occasionally
do one (see post on non-grandmother knife). Of course I'm mainly a collector of
vintage Scandi and that addiction is still in full force. Leaving the wallet and
credit card at home doesn't help as I tend to do most of my buying of blades
and knives online via Paypal - then listen to the wife scream when the bill
comes in :-)

Re: Scandi counselling now in session......

Fellow sufferers let us unite together and crush this addiction once and for all, no longer shall we lie to our wives about our online spending frenzy's, sneak down to the workshop late at night just to smell and fondle that newly aquired block of burr wood, never again shall we debate the the right finish for our handles- lying awake at night feverishly sweating about whether linseed or danish oil will be best.....
Its time gentlemen....let us make a stand and just say 'NO'
