Re: Persistence On Sale At Heinnie's

I might just be a bit too dense but what is 'Gin 1 blade steel' ?
Anything like 440, or 8cr13MoV?

Re: Persistence On Sale At Heinnie's

Gin-1 was used a lot in early Spydercos apparently, i have a Native 1 bladed in it : GIN-1 STAINLESS [and yes, id not heard of it either so i looked it up after i got the early Native]:

Gingami-1 / GIN-1 / G-2

Gingami-1 aka GIN-1 aka G-2. A steel with slightly less Carbon, slightly more Chromium, and much less Mmolybdenum than ATS-34. No Nickel, Tungsten or Vanadium. A very good stainless steel.
It is used often by Spyderco
Typical Analysis:
Carbon Chromium Manganese Molybdenum Phosphorus Silicon Sulfer
0.90% 15.50% 0.60% 0.30% 0.02% 0.37% 0.03%

from http://ajh-knives.com/metals.html

Gin-1 has its fans still, its a perfectly adequate steel for knifes apparently, looks fine in the only example i have
and Spyderco do have a lot of experience using it ...

Re: Persistence On Sale At Heinnie's

Am I the only steel snob looking at that Persistence and thinking that making that pattern in S30V or ZDP, and doing so in Golden, would make one of the classiest lockers about?

Tell me I'm not alone!

Re: Persistence On Sale At Heinnie's

I fail to see the attraction of Spyderco knives but each to their own. Heinnie's do give great service and choice, though.

Re: Persistence On Sale At Heinnie's

Persistence has just arrived and it's an instant favourite already. Perfect size, shape, ergo's the whole lot. It's even got four clip options which is great. Opens easily left handed as well.

Pics and more to follow.

Will do. Probably won't get them up until tomorrow though as I'm out this afternoon.

Re: Persistence On Sale At Heinnie's

actually very nice and usfull
I actually like the leaf shape (which i doint think i would) the wide blade gives good number of blade grips.
will have to get used to the opening I keep slipping off the hole when opening and closing one handed with the Liner lock is new and nearly close on my finger

Seems to have a micro bevel from the factory and not a brilliant sharpen but thats a factory edge for you .
gave it a quick polish hone to try before i resharpen for me.

As i Bushcrafter I tryed it on a bit of wood (just managed to resist battoning ) it cuts nicly and very manageable even shaves a reasonable fuzz stick might try a propper spoon blank soon .

Should make a good small game knife to as well as a camp cook tool on the odd onion etc

not sure the pocket clip will be on there long tho as it does dig into my palm when cutting hard but easy to remove.

Got the Spyderco new cataloge to ... oops as a diver might have to get a Whale rescue blade
